70 EDSA bus ban violators nabbed
MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has arrested 70 provincial bus drivers for violating its “no loading, no unloading” policy on EDSA since it was implemented on April 22, an official said yesterday.
“There are still many erring provincial bus drivers who have not been apprehended because they avoid enforcers or choose areas without closed-circuit television cameras,” MMDA traffic czar Bong Nebrija said, adding that each apprehended violator was fined P500.
He added that they are trying to address the gaps in apprehending erring provincial bus drivers so that they will be able to maximize the apprehensions and teach drivers a lesson.
The MMDA started implementing its provincial bus ban policy on EDSA by prohibiting provincial buses from dropping off and picking up commuters on the entire stretch of the major thoroughfare.
Under the MMDA’s policy, local government units in the metropolis, particularly Pasay and Quezon City, were directed to revoke the business permits of all bus terminals along EDSA.
