Lim vows more benefits, jobs for seniors
MANILA, Philippines — Manila mayoral candidate Alfredo Lim has vowed to increase the benefits of senior citizens in the city and provide them with jobs or sources of livelihood should he win in next month’s midterm elections.
During a recent meeting with senior citizens of District 6, Lim said that the moment he assumes office, he will strengthen the Office of the Senior Citizens’ Affairs office to help provide sufficient care for the elderly, according to a statement sent to The STAR.
Lim said among his priorities would be to get a list of senior citizens in the city so that they could be immediately given increased benefits.
“The present benefits are no longer enough even to buy their basic necessities so we have to increase them,” Lim said.
He also promised to address complaints about birthday benefits no longer reaching senior citizens and the elderly not being prioritized in the city’s six public hospitals, where the services were free during his time as mayor.
Lim also said he will make sure the 12 lying-in clinics he established during his terms would be active once again in helping pregnant women deliver their babies for free.
