100,000 cops to secure May polls
MANILA, Philippines — At least 100,000 police officers will be deployed to secure polling precincts across the country during the elections on May 13.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde said they would also activate elite quick reaction teams.
Albayalde said 138 officers of the PNP Academy’s Sansiklab Class of 2019, who joined the police organization yesterday, would help secure police stations.
“They will serve as stay behind forces. We will not deploy them on the field as they still have no experience yet,” he said.
During the badge of honor and service lunch ceremony, Albayalde warned the new police officers against getting involved in corruption.
“We will not hesitate to throw the books on you and render just punishment,” he said.
After the elections, Albayalde said the new police officers would undergo special commando and basic international operations courses to hone their skills.
