Cop, 2 suspects slain in Rizal drug bust

MANILA, Philippines — Two drug suspects and a police officer were killed in an anti-drug operation in Antipolo City, Rizal on Tuesday.

The Calabarzon police said brothers Ranie and Celeste Lajota resisted arrest and shot undercover agents who posed as buyers of shabu in Barangay Dela Paz at about 6:20 p.m.

Patrolman Ariel Dapyawen died while being treated at the Antipolo City District Hospital.

Sgt. Joseph Monjardin was wounded and recuperating  at the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center.

Police said the Lajota brothers were tagged in robberies and contract killings in the city aside from illegal drugs.

A shotgun and a caliber .38 revolver were reportedly recovered from the slain suspects.

Brig. Gen. Edward Carranza, Calabarzon police director, visited the wake of Dapyawen and pinned the Medalya ng Kadakilaan. Monjardin was awarded the Medalya ng Sugatan yesterday.

In Laguna, Leandro Palacio was shot dead when he drew his gun in a drug sting in Barangay Gulod, Cabuyao City before dawn yesterday.

In Ilocos Sur, Ramon dela Rosa, 49, was gunned down on his way to a court hearing by motorcycle-riding assailants in Barangay Ayudante, Candon City on Tuesday. 

Police said Dela Rosa was in a Toyota Hi-ace with his father Isabelo when they were shot. Isabelo was unhurt.– Ed Amoroso, Raymund Catindig
