4 dead, 23 hurt in road mishap

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Four people died and 23 others were injured when a jitney rolled over in Barangay Suello here yesterday.

Police said Julia Labi, Elizabeth Panis, Rechilda Abaigar and Adelina Agsaoay died at the scene.

The victims are volunteers for former Baguio congressman Nicasio Aliping, who is seeking to regain his seat and running under the Onjon Ti Baguio party, which is allied with the Liberal Party.

The driver of the vehicle, Leander Vergara, 23, reportedly lost control of the wheel when the brake malfunctioned.

Onjon Ti Baguio said it would pay for the hospital, funeral, burial and other expenses of the victims.
