Baguio police intelligence chief arrested for extortion

MANILA, Philippines — A police official accused of extorting money from a robbery suspect was arrested in an entrapment in Baguio City yesterday.

Lt. Col. Allan Docyogen, chief of the Baguio City police intelligence unit, was collared in front of a restaurant in Barangay Azco at around 2:27 p.m.

According to a report by the Philippine National Police Counter-Intelligence Task Force (PNP–CITF), Special Action Force commandos caught Docyogen receiving P50,000 in marked money from the robbery suspect, whose identity was withheld.

The suspect said Docyogen demanded P200,000 in exchange for not killing him or arrested for other crimes.

After negotiations, the police official reportedly lowered his demand to less than P100,000.

The victim, who was arrested based on a warrant for robbery, said he initially gave Docyogen P47,000.

Docyogen is under the custody of the CITF. He is facing charges for robbery extortion.

PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde vowed to weed out police scalawags from their ranks.
