Village exec, secretary killed in Agusan ambush

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines — A barangay official and a secretary were killed while three others were wounded in an ambush by unidentified gunmen in San Luis, Agusan del Sur on Saturday.

Councilwoman Susan Mandumutan of Barangay San Pedro died while being treated in a hospital.

Village secretary Maricel Quezon died at the scene.

Also taken to the hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds were Mandumutan’s husband Franklin, who is an incumbent councilor of San Luis town; their 8-year old son, and Nora Coguit, 19, daughter of another village official.

Investigation showed the victims were on their way to a political rally in nearby Barangay San Alejandro when the assailants opened fire at their car.

Although wounded, Franklin  managed to call for help.

Police have yet to determine the motive for the attack and identify the suspects.
