P1.8 billion worth of shabu seized at Manila port

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — At least 276 kilos of shabu worth P1.8 billion were seized yesterday by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) at the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT).

The drugs, which were suspected to have come from the Golden Triangle area (borders of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar), were concealed in packs of tea placed in bags and sacks.

BOC MICP District Collector Erastus Austria said the shipment was declared as plastic resins and arrived in the country last March 17.

It was allegedly consigned to Wealth Lotus Empire Corp.

PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino said Vietnamese authorities had informed his agency of a large quantity of illegal drugs arriving in the country this month.
