Contractor arrested for estafa at court hearing in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — A Filipino-Chinese contractor was arrested on estafa charges while attending a court hearing at the Manila city hall on Monday morning.

Brad Boie Peter Cheung was attending a hearing of a car theft case he filed against a couple when he was served an arrest warrant issued by Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 219 Judge Janet Abergos-Samar.

Cheung’s arrest stemmed from a complaint by Dennis and Ma. Christine Villanueva, who alleged that Cheung agreed to construct their house in Vista Real Classica Subdivision in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City amounting to P6.5 million in November 2015.

The complainants said they paid as much as P5 million but as of April 2017 their house remained unfinished and that Cheung inflated the prices of materials used in the construction.

Cheung posted P48,000 bail.
