Lawyer shot dead in Davao del Norte

DAVAO CITY, Philippines  —  A lawyer was gunned down in Tagum City, Davao del Norte on Wednesday night.

Authorities identified the victim as Rex Jasper Lopoz, 41, a resident of Purok 9, Nabunturan, Compostela Valley.

Initial investigation showed the victim was about to board his vehicle in front of a mall when he fell to the ground.

Lopoz’s companion, a certain Daddy Santos, thought the victim suffered a heart attack and brought him to the Bishop Joseph Reagan Hospital. It was only in the hospital when it was discovered that Lopoz suffered a gunshot wound in the back.

Witnesses said they heard a single gunshot when they saw the victim fell.

Probers have yet to determine the motive for the killing.
