3 dead in drug war

MANILA, Philippines — Three more drug suspects were killed in police operations in Bulacan and Quezon in the past two days.

Col. Chito Bersaluna, Bulacan police director, said Virgilio Gabriel Jr. and Erwin Panganiban fired at anti-narcotics agents in Barangay Santor in Malolos yesterday. 

Police said four sachets of shabu, nine sachets of dried marijuana leaves, a .38 caliber revolver, a caliber .45 pistol, a motorcycle and marked money were recovered from the fatalities.

Bersaluna said Gabriel was ranked 10th on the list of motorcycle-riding criminals in Bulacan.

Police said eight other drug suspects were arrested and 17 sachets of shabu were recovered in stings in Bulacan.

In Agusan del Norte, Vice Mayor Glicerio Monton of Jabonga town, who has been on hospital arrest for illegal drugs since November, was transferred to a detention facility in Cabadbaran City yesterday.

Monton was apprehended after 60 grams of shabu with an estimated street value of P708,000 were reportedly seized during a raid on his house in Barangay Poblacion. – Emmanuel Tupas, Ed Amoroso, Ben Serrano
