Magnitude 5.5 earthquake jolts Surigao del Sur, Davao

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.5 earthquake rocked parts of Mindanao yesterday. 

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor occurred at around 8:12 a.m., with its epicenter traced 102 kilometers northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. 

The tremor was reportedly felt at Intensity 4, which is classified as moderately strong, in Bislig also in Surigao del Sur and Intensity 2 in Davao City. 

Phivolcs warned the public of possible aftershocks.
