NPA rebel dead in Camarines Norte clash

MANILA, Philippines — A New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed in an encounter with soldiers in Basud, Camarines Norte on Sunday.

Government troopers recovered a caliber .45 pistol, a caliber .30 rifle and a hand grenade at the scene in Barangay Tuaca.

The gunfight, which lasted for about five minutes, occurred while personnel of the First Camarines Norte Provincial Mobile Force Company were conducting security operations, reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo showed.

Maj. Gen. Fernando Trinidad, Joint Task Force Bicolandia commander, lauded residents for reporting to authorities the presence of rebels in the area.
