2 drug suspects slain in shootouts

MANILA, Philippines — Two drug suspects were killed in alleged encounters with police officers in Luzon yesterday.

Jayson Cabangon allegedly drew out a gun after sensing that he was dealing with an undercover agent in Barangay Longos in Pulilan, Bulacan.

Cabangon was on the drug list of their barangay, according to Senior Superintendent Chito Bersaluna, Bulacan police director.

Police said they recovered a pistol, four plastic sachets said to contain shabu and a phone from the suspect.

Meanwhile, in Masbate, Ferdinand Udtohan, 34, allegedly engaged police officers in a shootout in Basud town.

Udtohan allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the officers during a sting at the boundary of Barangays Mantugawe and San Felipe.

Police recovered shabu with an estimated value of P20,000 from the suspect who died at the scene, according to Chief Inspector Maria Luisa Calubaquib, spokesperson for the Bicol police. – Emmanuel Tupas
