Filipino-Chinese trader slain, wife hurt in Bacolod City

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Motorcycle-riding gunmen killed a Filipino-Chinese businessman Tuesday night in the Our Mother of Perpetual Help Shrine along Benigno Aquino Drive, Barangay 5 in this city.

Alex Yao, 57, died while being treated at the Dr. Pablo Torre Memorial Hospital.

Yao died from two gunshot wounds while his wife Maria Teresa suffered a wound in her left hand.

According to Inspector Florentino Ablayan, Bacolod City police deputy commander, the Yao couple were in their vehicle and driving from the church compound.

The Yaos, members of the Bukas Loob Sa Diyos covenant community, had just attended a prayer meeting at the church.
