NPA killed in Masbate clash

MANILA, Philippines — An alleged New People’s Army (NPA) guerrilla was killed in an encounter with government security forces in Milagros, Masbate yesterday morning.

Reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo said the clash between a group of rebels and a team of Army troopers and police officers occurred at around 6:30 a.m. in Barangay San Antonio.

The rebels retreated, leaving behind their slain comrade, whom authorities have yet to identify.

The soldiers and police officers recovered two rifles, two improvised explosive devices and documents at the scene of the encounter.

A pursuit operation has been launched for the fleeing rebels.
