Navy officer dies in gun accident

MANILA, Philippines — A Navy officer died after he shot himself in the head by accident while he was cleaning his gun in Sta. Cruz, Manila before dawn Friday.

Corporal Michael Arceo, 26, was upstairs in his room cleaning his gun, when his partner Sushmita Tayo heard a gunshot at around 3:30 a.m.

When she went upstairs, she saw Arceo bleeding. He died less than an hour later while being treated. The bullet went through his chin, police said.
