Boy, 10, killed in Zamboanga fire

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A Grade 6 student died in a fire that destroyed their house in Barangay Manicahan in this city before midnight on Tuesday. 

Fire marshal Superintendent Jhufel Brañanola identified the fatality as Elton Barredo, 10.

The parents of the victim were injured when they tried to rescue their son, who was trapped in his room.  

The fire was declared out after an hour. 

Fire probers have yet to determine the cause of the fire. Damage was initially pegged at P500,000.
