NBI to re-autopsy slain Manila Police detainee
MANILA, Philippines — The relatives of the detainee who was allegedly murdered in the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 7 met with officials of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) yesterday to request a parallel invesigation.
Angela Bernardo said they believe her nephew Jervie Bernardo was “deliberately” shot by police last Wednesday, based on a video of a conversation he had with his partner, Nicka Nogales, before he died at the Ospital ng Tondo.
Allen Rey Delfin of the NBI’s Death Investigation Division, said a re-autopsy will be done today and charges will be filed “depending on the outcome of the investigation.”
He told Bernardo’s family that they have to produce the shirt he was wearing when he was shot.
Police reported two shots were fired but only one hit Bernardo, Delfin said, adding that the MPD’s claim that Bernardo grabbed the gun of one of his jailers is self-serving.
Bernardo, who was on the barangay drug watchlist, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon. A gun was recovered from his possession.
