P2.2 million smuggled cigarettes seized in Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — At least 148 boxes of smuggled cigarettes worth P2.2 million were confiscated from a commercial vessel at a port here yesterday. 

Personnel of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Zamboanga peninsula office, Joint Task Force Zamboanga, Bureau of Customs (BOC) and Armed Forces of the Philippines Intelligence Service seized the cigarettes on M/V Kristel Jane 3 that came from Jolo. 

The BOC said the smuggled cigarettes could have originated from Malaysia. 

No one has claimed ownership of the shipment.
