Iloilo mayoral bet arrested for guns, ammo
ILOILO CITY, Philippines — A councilor in Calinog town in Iloilo, who is running for mayor, was arrested after several guns and ammunition were reportedly recovered during a raid on his house on Monday.
Police said Francisco Calvo, 48, yielded a caliber .45 pistol and an M16 rifle, both with valid licenses; a caliber .22 rifle, a caliber. 25 pistol and various types of ammunition.
Calvo claimed the caliber .25 pistol is owned by his father-in-law while the caliber .22 was owned by his late friend.
The guns with licenses were returned to Calvo, but police said he would still be charged with violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, Iloilo police director, said they received reports that Calvo fired shots in the air whenever there is a party at his house.
