Manila Police District chief disarms, handcuffs cop
MANILA, Philippines — Manila Police District (MPD) director Chief Superintendent Vicente Danao Jr. disarmed and handcuffed a policeman who allegedly challenged him to a gunfight on Tuesday afternoon.
Danao, accompanied by his men armed with high-powered firearms, rushed out of his office and accosted Senior Police Officer 4 Dennis de Jesus.
Prior to this, Chief Inspector Eugenio Extremadura, head of the District Headquarters Security Unit (DHSU), erroneously informed Danao that De Jesus had challenged the MPD chief to a gun duel.
A cell phone of an Explosives Ordnance Division member was confiscated after he was seen taking a video of the incident.
Witnesses said Danao reprimanded Extremadura after he was told that De Jesus, a law graduate and a pastor, did not challenge the MPD official to a firefight.
De Jesus is the brother of former DHSU chief Alex de Jesus, who was relieved and replaced by Extremadura.
