Baguio gets chillier at 9.2°C
BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Residents and tourists in this city woke up to a colder morning yesterday as the temperature dropped to 9.2 degrees Celsius.
It was the lowest temperature so far this year, after the 9.8 degrees Celsius recorded on Monday morning and the 10.4 on Tuesday last week.
The temperature in Mt. Pulag in Kabayan, vegetable farms in Barangay Paoay in Atok and Mt. Sto. Tomas in Tuba, all in Benguet, are usually two degrees Celsius lower compared to this city.
While the cold spell attracts tourists, vegetable farms in Benguet are damaged by frost bite.
Colder mornings in the city started on Jan. 13 when the temperature went down to 12 degrees Celsius.
Last year, the lowest temperature was only at 11.4 degrees Celsius.
On Jan. 16, 1962, the temperature in this city reached 6.3 degrees, the lowest in history.
The state weather bureau said Baguio and other parts of the country would continue to experience chilly mornings until next month. – Helen Flores
