1 dead, 1 hurt in road mishaps
MANILA, Philippines — A man was killed and an unidentified motorist was injured in separate road accidents in Metro Manila since Wednesday.
In Valenzuela, Albert Codina, 47, was riding a motorcycle when he crashed into the rear of a truck that was stopped at a traffic light along the inner lane of McArthur Highway in Marulas at around 1:30 a.m.
Codina landed on the pavement and died of head injuries.
A case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide will be filed against the truck driver, Manolito Meude.
In Taguig, a still unidentified passenger was injured in a smashup along C-5 Road during yesterday morning’s rush hour.
A 22-wheeler truck rammed into seven vehicles: three private cars, a pickup, a tourist bus and two motorcycles, according to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) spokesperson Celine Pialago.
The injured passenger was taken to the nearest hospital while truck driver Jonie Sindac Romantico was temporarily detained after the accident, Pialago said.
Romantico said his truck’s brakes failed. Pialago said the truck stalled along Kalayaan Avenue at around 5 a.m. due to a fuel pump problem until its brakes malfunctioned along C-5 Road near Upper McKinley.
Pialago said the accident caused heavy traffic before the bus was removed from the area. – Robertzon Ramirez
