MANILA, Philippines — An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 rocked parts of Mindanao yesterday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The quake occurred at 4:03 a.m. and was centered 127 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental.

It was felt at Intensity 4, which is classified as moderately strong, in Davao City and San Josefa, Agusan del Sur.

The temblor was felt at Intensity 3 in Alabel, Sarangani and Intensity 2 in the cities of Davao, General Santos, Kidapawan and Gingoog and Kiamba, Sarangani and Tupi in South Cotabato.

The quake was also felt at Intensity 1 in Cebu City and T’boli, South Cotabato.

Phivolcs said the quake was an aftershock of the magnitude 7.2 tremor that hit Davao Oriental late last month.

The tremor, which had a depth of 114 kms, was tectonic in origin.

Phivolcs said the quake was too deep to create damage.
