Family of 3 die in Manila fire

Rey Galupo, Cecille Suerte Felipe - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Three members of a family died from suffocation after they were trapped in their burning house in Sampaloc, Manila yesterday morning.

Lynn Rose Valentin, 50, and her son Jordan, 26, were found embracing each other on the second floor of the house on Doña Maria street, said Chief Inspector Crusid Cante, Manila-Bureau of Fire Protection operations chief.

Valentin’s nephew Genre Tropicales, 17, was found near the fire exit, also on the second floor.

Valentin’s daughter Roselyn Salcedo said she managed to get out of the house even if she was nearly blinded by the thick smoke.

Cante said the fire started at around 6:17 a.m. and was put out before 8 a.m.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Domingo Mendoza said they are not discounting the possibility that the fire was caused by faulty wiring since the ceiling of the ground floor was gutted by the fire.
