JV Ejercito seeks creation of Coast Guard hospital

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito has proposed the establishment of a P400-million hospital exclusively for Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel and their dependents.

He emphasized the need to promote the well-being and medical needs of the PCG employees and their families.

Ejercito recently filed Senate Bill 2128, which seeks to establish the PCG General Hospital to be located in Bicutan, Taguig.

He said the measure aims to ensure that quality healthcare services are readily accessible to members of the PCG.

“Injuries and deaths are inevitable considering their herculean tasks. Coast guard officers are always at risk during situations at sea,” Ejercito said.

Aside from maritime law enforcement, the senator said part of the mandate of the PCG are search and rescue operations.

“This measure aims to recognize their hard work, bravery and heroism,” Ejercito said.

“It is only imperative that a hospital be established exclusively for PCG personnel and their dependents,” he added.

Under the bill, at least P400 million should be appropriated for the construction and initial operation of the PCG General Hospital.

For the succeeding years, Ejercito proposed that funds for its operation should be included in the annual national budget.
