MMDA: 57 cars caught illegally parked
MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) yesterday issued tickets to 57 violators on the first day of its enforcement of higher fines for illegal parking.
The vehicles were found illegally parked along F. B. Harrison street, Taft Avenue, Gil Puyat Avenue, Quirino Highway, T.M. Kalaw street and Baclaran between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., the MMDA said in a statement yesterday.
The agency started yesterday the implementation of higher fines for certain traffic violations, including illegal parking.
Violators would have to pay P1,000 for illegally parked vehicles with drivers inside, up from the original P200; and P2,000, up from P500, for illegally parked vehicles when drivers fail to return within the “grace period of five minutes.”
It would also charge yellow or bus lane violators along EDSA P1,000 from the original P500. Those found to be obstructing traffic would be fined P1,000, up from P150.
