MPD bares traffic rerouting scheme for Nazarene feast
According to the MPD Traffic Enforcement Unit, the following roads will be closed starting 11 a.m. tomorrow for the 5 p.m. blessing and procession of the Black Nazarene replica: southbound lane of Quezon Boulevard in Quiapo, from A. Mendoza/Fugoso to Plaza Miranda; and westbound lane of España Boulevard from P. Campa to Lerma street.

MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Police District (MPD) will close several road and reroute traffic a day before Wednesday’s Feast of the Black Nazarene.

According to the MPD Traffic Enforcement Unit, the following roads will be closed starting 11 a.m. tomorrow for the 5 p.m. blessing and procession of the Black Nazarene replica: southbound lane of Quezon Boulevard in Quiapo, from A. Mendoza/Fugoso to Plaza Miranda; and  westbound lane of España Boulevard from P. Campa to Lerma street.

On that day, vehicles from España heading for Roxas Boulevard/South Pier Zone/Taft Ave. should turn right to P. Campa, straight to Fugoso street, to the point of destination.

Meanwhile, the vehicles on Quezon Boulevard coming from A. Mendoza street should turn right to Fugoso and left to Rizal Avenue to the point of destination.

Starting at 10 p.m. on Jan. 8, Tuesday, the following roads will be closed: Katigbak Drive and South Drive; northbound lane of Quezon and McArthur Bridge from Bonifacio Shrine onwards; and Taft Avenue from Ayala Boulevard to Bonifacio Shrine. 

For Tuesday night, light vehicles intending to utilize the stretch of Bonifacio Drive and Roxas Boulevard southbound should turn around to Anda Circle going to A. Soriano Avenue, turn right to Gen. Luna street to Burgos-Orosa street, then turn left to TM Kalaw street to Taft Avenue to point of destination.

Vehicles coming from the southern part of Metro Manila heading for the northbound lane of Roxas Boulevard from TM Kalaw to P. Burgos should turn right to TM Kalaw, left to Orosa going to Intramuros and left to A. Soriano Avenue to the point of destination.

Starting on Wednesday midnight, the following roads will be closed: McArthur, Jones and Quezon bridges; Roxas Boulevard from Katigbak Drive to T.M. Kalaw; and both lanes of Quezon Boulevard, from A. Mendoza/Fugoso street and España Avenue/P. Campa street for southbound, and from Taft Avenue/Ayala Boulevard for northbound. 

Vehicles coming from Quezon City using the stretch of España should turn right to P. Campa, turn left to A. Mendoza, turn right to Fugoso, turn right to Recto Avenue or left to Nicanor Reyes street and then turn right to CM Recto Avenue to the point of destination.

If you are coming from Caloocan plying Rizal Avenue, turn right to Fugoso Street or Recto Avenue to the point of destination. 

MPD chief Senior Superintendent Vicente Danao Jr. reminded the public not to bring prohibited items like firearms and deadly weapons, firecrackers, backpacks and colored canisters or water jugs during the traslacion.

There will also be no vendors allowed along the procession route and at Quiapo Church, where the procession will end, as early as tomorrow.

A liquor ban will also be in effect a day before the start of the Nazarene feast.
