MMDA to motorists: 'Brace for traffic jams'
MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) yesterday warned motorists of monstrous traffic jams as travelers are expected to return to the metropolis today after the long holiday break.
Bong Nebrija, MMDA traffic head for EDSA, said motorists should anticipate traffic congestion along major thoroughfares in Metro Manila as work in government and classes in public schools resume today.
“It’s back to normal traffic on EDSA kasi balik na din sa Manila ang mga nagbakasyon sa probinsiya,” Nebrija said.
He said commuters should brace for horrendous traffic jams in Balintawak, Quezon City and Magallanes in Makati as well as other entry and exit points.
Nebrija said heavy traffic is also expected in Cubao, Quezon City where several bus terminals are located.
The MMDA said it would deploy additional personnel to man traffic in the metropolis.
The number coding scheme is also in effect, the MMDA said.
