ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — An improvised explosive device exploded Tuesday in the house of a barangay councilor in a village along the east coast of Zamboanga City, police said.

The police said no one was reported hurt in the explosion early Tuesday morning at the house of kagawad Henry Arcillas Gregorio in Barangay Tagasilay.

The explosion damaged Gregorio's porch, Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, spokesperson of Police Regional Office 9, said.

Galvez said police found that a unidentified person on a motorcycle went to the house looking for Gregorio. The person, whom police said may have left the IED on Gregorio's porch, left in a hurry after identifying the barangay councilor.

Galvez said the members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team conducted a post-blast investigation and recovered debris from the explosion. The remnants of the IED will be examined in a laboratory to determine the type of explosive used.

She said police investigators believe the bombing was over a personal grudge.
