8 dead in vehicular mishaps

MANILA, Philippines — Eight persons died in separate vehicular accidents that occurred in Mindanao and Luzon yesterday.

Four of the fatalities, still to be identified, died when their Toyota Grandia collided with a Mitsubishi L-300 in Polomolok, South Cotabato at around 3 p.m.

Thirteen other passengers of the Grandia were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries.

The vehicles were traveling along the Koronadal-General Santos Highway in Barangay Palkan when they figured in the accident.

On the same day, four persons also died in separate road accidents involving motorcycles in Pangasinan.

Two of the fatalities were identified as Dominador Ordonio, 25, of Urdaneta City, and Jessie Cabaddo, 38, of Rosales town.

Ordonio was traveling in Barangay Barraca, Villasis town at past midnight when his motorcycle collided with a sport utility vehicle driven by Jupiter Bulatao.

The victim was declared dead on arrival at the Ordoñez Medical Hospital due to severe head and body injuries.

Bulatao was taken to the police station for questioning.

Meanwhile, Cabaddo was on a motorcycle with his friends Raffy Genotiva and Christopher Palma when they hit a power post in Barangay Bakit-Bakit, Rosales town.

Cabbado was declared dead on arrival at the Dr. Chan Hospital, where Genotiva and Palma were also taken for treatment.

Another collision involving a jeepney and a motorcycle in Barangay Bolasi, San Fabian town resulted in the death of two men, whose names were not immediately available.

The jeepney, driven by Dominador Ramos Jr., reportedly swerved, causing it to hit and dragged the motorcycle, which burst into flames.

The victims were declared dead on arrival at the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City.

Meanwhile, in Isabela, a student died while her boyfriend was seriously injured when their motorcycle collided with a bus in San Pablo town on Saturday.

Judy Pearl Yasto, 20, and her companion Jonel Sumigad, 19, fell from their motorcycle and were run over by the bus driven by Walter de Jesus, 41.

Yasto died at the scene while Sumigad was taken to a hospital for treatment. – With Raymund Catindig
