MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Police District (MPD) yesterday filed multiple charges against the man who held a five-year-old boy hostage and forced police officers into a standoff in front of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Sta. Mesa, Manila Monday morning.

MPD director Senior Superintendent Vicente Danao Jr. ordered the filing of charges of serious illegal detention in relation to child abuse, multiple serious physical injuries, frustrated homicide, robbery, illegal possession of firearms, alarm and scandal and direct assault against Dominador Abrillo, 38, a native of Leyte and resident of Manggahan street in North Daang Hari, Taguig City.

Danao also ordered MPD general assignment and investigation section chief Senior Inspector Henry Navarro to coordinate with the Leyte police to determine if a murder case had been filed against Abrillo in 2013.

Abrillo, who is currently confined under heavy security at the Ospital ng Maynila, admitted during an interview that he was hiding in Taguig after killing his wife’s lover in 2013.

It was only after three hours after Abrillo surrendered that Navarro learned that the suspect sustained a gunshot wound in the chest. The bullet exited through his back.

Abrillo grabbed the gun of Philippine National Railways security guard Johnrel Jabonillo at around 9:37 a.m. after the latter refused to allow him to board the train, according to Danao.

Abrillo fired indiscriminately, hitting Mikko Barroga, 30; Alberto Fernandez, 52; Jofel Agsoy, 17; Jhoanna Navarro, 17, and Jaime Dulata, 56.

The victims were taken to Lourdes Hospital and Ospital ng Sampaloc.
