4 Chinese in Zambales ‘floating shabu lab’ get life
OLONGAPO CITY, Philippines — Four Chinese who were apprehended in a “floating shabu laboratory” off the coast of Subic, Zambales in 2016 were meted life in prison yesterday.
Olongapo City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 74 Presiding Judge Roline Jabalde convicted Shu Fook Leung, Kwok Tung Chan, Wing Fai Lo and Kam Wah Kwok for possession of 467.8 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.
Aside from sentencing them to life imprisonment, the court also ordered each of the four Chinese to pay P5 million.
They allegedly maintained their “floating shabu laboratory” in a 50-meter fishing vessel near the shores of Barangay Calapandayan.
But the charges of manufacture of illegal drugs were dismissed “for failure of the prosecution to prove their guilt beyond reasonable doubt,” the court said.
The four were arrested on July 11, 2016. Seized from them, aside from the shabu, was a hydrogenator that was used in the manufacture of the illegal drug.
