Relatives aid PDEA-ARMM in arresting suspect

John Unson - The Philippine Star

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — An alleged drug trafficker circulating P10 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu weekly was arrested here on Thursday in an operation that involved his relatives.

Juvenal Azurin, director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-ARMM), yesterday said it was Mhads Mamintal’s relatives who tipped off anti-narcotics personnel.

Mamintal, a Maguindanaoan, was arrested while selling P6.8 million worth of shabu to a PDEA-ARMM agent.

It took the PDEA-ARMM more than a month of surveillance on Mamintal here and in nearby Sultan Kudarat and Datu Odin Sinsuat towns.

Mamintal is detained in PDEA-ARMM at Pedro Colina Hill.

Mamintal faces charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) for selling one kilo of shabu.

“We are thankful to his relatives and to the office of (Mayor Frances Cynthia Sayadi) for supporting our efforts to put him behind bars,” Azurin said.
