Raymund Catindig - The Philippine Star

TUGUEGARAO CITY – An alleged goat thief died, another was wounded while two more escaped following a shootout with a barangay tanod or village watchman in Barangay Divisoria, Aurora, Isabela on Thursday.

The police said four motorcycle-riding men carrying a goat sped off despite being flagged down by village watchmen at a checkpoint.

Chief tanod Estanislao Duque claimed that he fired back at the suspects who engaged him in a shootout, which hit Cee Jay Vidal, who died at the scene. Anescon Alcon was wounded.

The police recovered from John Rich dela Peña and Edwin Asuncion a goat reportedly stolen from the backyard of Jaime Asirit, a .38 caliber revolver, a sachet of suspected methamphetamine hydrocloride or shabu and a hand grenade.

Duque surrendered to the police and is being investigated for the gun that he used in the shootout.
