CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna  , Philippines  —  A barangay councilor and his wife were shot and hacked dead allegedly by their relatives at their home in Sta. Fe, Romblon yesterday morning.

Danilo Jungay, 69, of Barangay Magsaysay, and his wife Cristy, 56, had just waken up when their nephew Lester Jungay, 18, barged in at around 6:30 a.m.

Lester was reportedly accompanied by three other suspects, identified as Raigor, Nelson and Ramil, all surnamed Jungay.

The suspects, who were reportedly armed with handguns and bolos, fled after the killing.

They were arrested in a follow-up operation, according to Superintendent Imelda Tolentino, spokesperson for the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) police.

Probers are eyeing a land dispute as the motive for the killing.
