Boy, 3, strangled in hammock

Jennifer Rendon - The Philippine Star

ILOILO CITY  , Philippines  —  A three-year-old boy died when he got tangled in his hammock in Dumangas, Iloilo on Wednesday.

The boy was with his four-year-old sister at their home in Barangay Jardin when the incident occurred at past 10 a.m., according to Police Officer 3 Gemma Dorilag, chief of the Dumangas police Women and Children’s Protection Desk.

The children’s father Winifredo Pahilagao, 38, was doing some chores at the back of their house while their mother Regine was working as a househelp.

Pahilagao told investigators that he last saw his son at around 10 a.m., playing in the hammock. He said the boy was fond of placing his head in the hammock while turning his body in circles.

Pahilagao said his daughter told him that her brother was asleep, when he asked them what they were doing.

When he checked on the children, Pahilagao found his son unresponsive and the cord of the hammock looped around his neck.

The victim died while being treated at the Ramon Duremdes District Hospital.
