Magnitude 4.7 quake hits off Tawi-Tawi
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck off the coast of Tawi-Tawi before noon yesterday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Allan Rommel Labayog, Phivolcs regional field officer, said the tremor, which occurred at about 11 a.m., had a depth of 614 kilometers and centered 295 kms southeast of South Ubian town.
Labayog said there was no recorded intensity as the tremor was not felt in the immediate area, considering its depth. He said the magnitude was also not strong enough to generate a tsunami.
