John Unson - The Philippine Star

NORTH COTABATO, Philippines — Six security guards were wounded when suspected communist rebels attacked a banana plantation in Arakan town on Thursday night.

The victims were identified as Jerry Cansico, Ramar Embay, Naseran Embana, Joel Algocoy, Nelson Ampugo and Christoval Felix. They were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Superintendent Aldrin Gonzalez, Soccksargen police spokesman, said the rebels raided the plantation in Barangay Dallag owned by the Lapanday group of companies. He said the rebels are demanding the payment of so-called protection money on a regular basis.
