Maute men surrender in Lanao del Sur
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Two more members of the Islamic State-inspired Maute group surrendered in Lanao del Sur on Monday night.
The militants, who were identified only as Commander and Mamac, yielded an improvised caliber .50 rifle and a Garand, according to Lt. Col. Ian Noel Ignes, 55th Infantry Battalion commander.
Capt. Clint Antipala, acting public affairs chief of the First Army Division, said the surrenderees were undergoing custodial debriefing.
Antipala said around 30 Maute militants surrendered in the past two months.
Meanwhile, 24 loose firearms, a hand grenade and various types of ammunition were turned over to the 2nd Mechanized Brigade (MB) in Tubod town also on Monday.
Brig. Gen. Thomas Sedano Jr., 2nd MB commanders, said 746 loose firearms were recovered in Lanao del Norte this year as part of the implementation of martial law in Mindanao.
