Reds kill soldier in Northern Samar ambush

MANILA, Philippines — A soldier was killed while another was wounded in an ambush staged by suspected New People’s Army rebels in Las Navas, Northern Samar on Tuesday.

Capt. Francis Agno, chief information officer of the 8th Infantry Division, said Pfc. Rommel Debuton died on the way to the hospital, where Cpl. Jaype Malbas was also taken for treatment.  

Agno said the victims, who are members of a community support team of the 20th Infantry Battalion in Barangay San Miguel, were attacked on their way back to the camp after buying food at a market.
