QCPD lauds Belmonte for backing anti-drug drive

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) yesterday lauded Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte for her support in addressing the illegal drug problem in the city.

QCPD director Chief Superintendent Joselito Esquivel Jr. cited their partnership with the Quezon City Anti-Illegal Drug Abuse Council headed by Belmonte.

“You deserve the most heartfelt gratitude of the Philippine National Police,” Esquivel said in his speech during the QCPD’s 79th founding anniversary celebration at Camp Karingal.

QCPD records showed that eight drug suspects were killed and 211 others were apprehended in anti-narcotics operations from Nov. 19 to 28.

A total of 1,194.85 grams of shabu worth P7.19 million, 500 grams of marijuana valued at P67,000 and assorted guns were confiscated during the stings.

During the same period, more than 200 long and short firearms with expired licenses as well as three hand grenades were seized under the “Oplan Katok” program.

Since the start of President Duterte’s term in 2016, the QCPD has confiscated some P99,700,000 worth of drugs.

Esquivel thanked Belmonte and Mayor Herbert Bautista for the city government’s support for the 5,000-strong Quezon City police force.

The local government has provided the QCPD vehicles, firearms and communications equipment to maintain peace and order in the city.

“The QCPD cannot attain these achievements without the backing of Mayor Herbert Bautista and our partners in the city council led by Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte,” Esquivel said.
