Teacher, 3 cops held over colorum vehicles

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Three police officers and a teacher were issued traffic violation tickets for operating colorum or unregistered public utility vehicles during the weeklong clearing operations of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in southern Metro Manila.

Bong Nebrija, supervising operations officer of the MMDA, said the two lawmen were issued tickets on Monday while the teacher was accosted yesterday morning.

Nebrija said the three were fined P6,100 each for operating colorum vans while their vehicles were impounded for three months.

He refused to disclosed their names pending the investigation of the cases.

Nebrija said the colorum operators would usually get commuters on their way to Manila from Cavite through a “carpooling or ride-sharing system,” but would ask them to pay fare in return.

During the operation, Nebrija said they impounded 25 colorum vans.
