American fugitive faces deportation
MANILA, Philippines — An American man wanted for multiple fraud is set to be deported by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for overstaying in the country, an official said yesterday.
Harold Leigh Andrews, 81, was arrested by agents of the BI Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) at his condominium unit at the East Bay Residences along Sucat Road, Parañaque on Nov. 7, according to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente.
Morente said he ordered Andrews’ arrest based on a summary deportation order issued by the BI Board of Commissioners in August for being an undesirable alien and overstaying in the country.
Andrews has been hiding in the Philippines since January 2013.
“We will deport him for being an undocumented alien. His passport has been revoked by the US government,” Morente said.
FSU intelligence officer Bobby Raquepo said Andrews fled to the Philippines after he had been indicted for multiple counts of fraud in Alabama.
Raquepo said Andrews would be included in the BI blacklist to prevent him from re-entering the country.
