220 families lose homes in Navotas, Manila fires

MANILA, Philippines — At least 220 families were left homeless after fires broke out in Navotas and Manila since Wednesday night.

Around 160 families were left homeless in a fire that reached third alarm and razed 80 houses along Oliveros street in Barangay Tangos, Navotas yesterday morning.

The blaze started at around 7:30 a.m. and was put out two hours later.

The damage from the fire was estimated at P400,000. No one was reported injured in the fire.

In Manila, around 60 families lost their homes in a fire that reached second alarm along Prudencio street in Sampaloc, Manila Wednesday night.

The fire started at around 5:48 p.m. and reached second alarm before it was put out at around 7:22 p.m.

The fire razed a three-story residential building before spreading to 20 adjacent houses, according to arson investigator SFO2 Armando Baldillo Jr.

The fire damage was pegged at P50,000. No fatalities were reported in the fire, but four persons – Isidro Cornelio, Cristine Panay, Glenn Adsavon and fire volunteer James Felipe – were hurt in the fire.
