Quezon City approves P1 trike fare hike

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City council has approved a P1 increase in tricycle fares amid fluctuations in fuel prices.

Ordinance 2575-2018 increased the minimum fare for tricycles from P8 to P9 on regular trips and special trips from P16 to P18.

There are around 24,700 registered tricycles in Quezon City.

The ordinance introduced by Councilor Oliviere Belmonte Jr.  provides an additional P1 for every succeeding kilometer.

The city government approved the fare hike amid fluctuations on oil prices and excise tax imposed on gasoline under Republic Act 10963 or the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Law.

Senior citizens, persons with disabilities and students are still entitled to avail themselves of 20 percent discount as mandated by law.
