Teenager nabbed for professor’s slay
MANILA, Philippines — Police arrested yesterday a 17-year-old boy who killed a retired college professor in a motel in Sta. Cruz, Manila on Monday night.
The suspect was nabbed while playing at a computer shop in Tondo at around 3 p.m.
He was tagged in the murder of Ely Tañedo, 66, who taught at the Philippine Public Safety College.
Tañedo bore bruises and ligature marks around his neck, according to Inspector Glenzor Vallejo of the Manila Police District homicide unit.
Investigation showed that Tañedo checked into the motel with a male companion.
Tañedo picked up the victim along Claro M. Recto Avenue, police said.
The suspect said he killed Tañedo after the victim failed to pay him P300 for sex.
The suspect admitted that he strangled Tañedo.
Police said they were able to track down the suspect through closed-circuit television footage.
