Woman, 2 grandkids die in Iloilo fire

ILOILO CITY  , Philippines  —   A 74-year-old woman and her two grandchildren died in a fire that hit a residential area in Jaro district in this city yesterday.

Natividad Fanunciano and Iman and Ivan, both surnamed Apongol, Grade 6 and Grade 5 students, respectively, were trapped in their house when the fire broke out at around 3:20 a.m.

Fire probers said an unattended candle at the altar could have caused the fire.

Six houses were destroyed in the fire, which was declared out at about 5:17 a.m.

Damage to property was initially placed at P400,000.
