Quakes shake Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines — Three earthquakes, with its epicenter all located in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, jolted parts of Mindanao on Monday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said yesterday.

A magnitude 5.3 quake occurred at about 10:40 p.m. The tremor was felt at Intensity 5, which is classified as strong, in Hinatuan.

The quake was felt at Intensity 3 in Bislig City, Lianga and Cagwait also in Surigao del Sur.

A magnitude 5.2 temblor quake occurred at 10:51 p.m. It was also felt in Bislig at Intensity 3.

A magnitude 5 tremor occurred at around 9:41 p.m. It was felt at Intensity 3 in Hinatuan and Rosario, Agusan del Sur and Intensity 2 in Bislig, Lianga and Cagwait, Surigao del Sur.

Phivolcs said there was no expected damage or injuries from the quakes.
